ErgoFloor obtains EPDs for its own rubber flooring products

ErgoFloor is among the first Danish companies to have product-specific EPDs prepared for a selection of its own rubber flooring products. These Environmental Product Declarations document the products’ environmental impacts and give customers, consultants and project owners access to specific, comparable environmental data.

What is an EPD?

EPD stands for Environmental Product Declaration. An EPD is a standardised, third-party verified declaration that describes a product’s environmental impacts throughout its life cycle.

The declaration may include information on the product’s carbon footprint, energy consumption, raw materials, production, transport and end-of-life management. An EPD is therefore not an environmental label or a guarantee that a product is sustainable. It is a documentation tool that enables product environmental impacts to be assessed and compared on a consistent basis.

Documented environmental impacts of rubber flooring

With product-specific EPDs for selected rubber flooring products, ErgoFloor can document their environmental characteristics using data from the actual production process.

This documentation improves transparency and makes it easier to specify ErgoFloor rubber flooring for construction projects that require environmental data, life cycle assessments and documentation of building materials’ carbon footprints.

The EPDs can also serve as documentation for certification schemes, carbon calculations, tenders and projects with specific environmental requirements.

The growing importance of EPDs in construction

Requirements for documenting the environmental impacts of building materials are increasing both in Denmark and internationally. EPDs are therefore becoming increasingly important when selecting products and materials for commercial buildings, public projects, sports facilities, playgrounds and other applications for rubber flooring and surfacing.

In several international markets, EPDs are already included in requirements for public procurement and construction projects. Examples include US Buy Clean initiatives, which use Environmental Product Declarations to document materials’ carbon footprints.

A focus on transparency and responsible production

ErgoFloor’s EPDs are part of the company’s work on environmental data, transparency and responsible resource use. The product-specific Environmental Product Declarations provide a documented basis for assessing the environmental impacts of selected rubber flooring products and making more informed material choices.

The work on EPDs also supports ErgoFloor’s focus on durable rubber solutions, product development and increased documentation throughout the value chain.
